David Chase managed to round out a pretty impressive cast for the upcoming prequel of The Sopranos, and we finally know who’s going to play the most iconic character this series introduced us to – Michael Gandolfini has been cast as the young Tony Soprano.

If you think his name sounds familiar, it’s definitely not a coincidence. The late James Gandolfini, who portrayed the infamous mob boss in the original series, just happens to be his father. This family connection makes his casting even more meaningful, and he said it’s an honor to continue his dad’s legacy by stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano.

The up-and-coming actor is also thrilled that he’ll get an opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible cast he assembled. In all honesty, we can’t blame him – The Many Saints of Newark will star the likes of Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga and Jon Bernthal.

The release date of this highly-anticipated project is still a mystery, but at this point in time we know it will be set in the era of the ’60s Newark riots.
