David Lowery is busy plotting the follow-up to Green Knight, and his next film will be worth watching for its cast alone. Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel landed lead roles in Lowery’s upcoming pop music epic Mother Mary.

Lowery will direct Mother Mary from the script he wrote, while A24 and Topic Studios are on board to co-finance the project. The film has been described as an epic pop melodrama about a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).

Two amazing leads and an acclaimed director aren’t the only reasons to be excited about this project. Music will also be pretty epic since Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX are on board to write and produce original songs for this film.

Anne Hathaway adds Mother Mary to her already busy slate, which includes the upcoming Sundance hit Eileen and Rebecca Miller’s romantic comedy She Came to Me. She’s also attached to Mother’s Instinct co-starring Jessica Chastain and the Amazon rom-com The Idea of You.

As for Coel, the Emmy-winning star and creator of I May Destroy You is fresh off the success of Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We’ll next see her in Mr. and Mrs. Smith series at Amazon alongside co-creator and star Donald Glover.
