Michelle Yeoh has officially joined Avatar’s call sheet. The casting announcement was made via the franchise’s official social media channels.

The Crazy Rich Asians and Star Trek: Discovery star has joined previously announced newcomers to the Avatar family, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Oona Chaplin. The four will star opposite returning Avatar star Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver.

Yeoh is set to play scientist Dr. Karina Mogue in the highly anticipated sequels, however, it is unknown in which of the sequels she’ll appear in or in how many.

“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels,” Cameron said in a statement.

The Cameron-helmed original film was released in 2009 and remains the highest grossing film of all time, hauling $2.7 billion globally. The first sequel is slated for December 2020. Filming officially started on Avatar 2 in September 2017.
