Missy Elliott Will Recieve the Michel Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs

She has long published numerous music videos and now MTV is giving her the due honors. Variety has revealed that the rapper, producer, and songwriter Missy Elliott will be the recipient of the network’s Michel Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Eliott will receive the prize during the VMAs on August 26. She will also perform at the ceremony.

“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” Bruce Gillmer—head of music and music talent, Viacom and co-brand head at MTV International—said in a press release. “Her creative vision across production, performance, and songwriting is unmatched.”

Elliott has sold more than 30 million records worldwide during her career and she is the only female rapper to have 6 certified platinum albums. The rapper has won five Grammy Awards during her career.

The 2019 VMAs will take place at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Among the nominees for the different prizes are Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Solange, and ROSALÍA. Taylor Swift will also perform at the ceremony.
