A new Mortal Kombat movie is in the making and it seems fans of the gory franchise will get to see some of their favorite characters come to life (and then die brutally) on screen. In an interview with Comicbook, writer Greg Russo said they mean to put in a lot of characters, develop them and give them an important role.

“I think there’s 70 something characters in this and we don’t have the ability to stagger these films like the MCU does, right?” said Russo. “We can’t do a Sonya movie and then do a Liu Kang movie. So we’re forced right into Avengers mode off the bat. So when that happens from a story perspective, you’re naturally going to have to juggle a lot of different characters, and you realize very soon that you only have so much room in, what’s hopefully story one”.

In addition, the writer teases the overall look of the films and according to him, we are going to see some fatalities taken directly from the video games.

“I can say for sure that the fatalities that we’re going to put into the project are from the game,” said Russo. “We’re going to come up with some new things that we haven’t seen before, but at the same time… we want to make sure that it’s not just in there just to be in there and have that point to the story. So everything will always have that point to what’s happening in the story, it will feel awesome and badass, and it’s going to play a role, you know, it’s not just going to be there just to be showy.”
