New Zealand pop star Lorde won’t be performing at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The news was confirmed by the organizers on social media.

According to a social media post by VMAs, Lorde won’t take the stage due to “a change in production elements.”

“We love Lorde and cannot wait for her to perform on the VMA stage in the future!” VMAs added.

Lorde was one of the first performers confirmed for the 2021 MTV VMAs. She was scheduled to perform one of the new songs from her latest album Solar Power. This was supposed to be the 24-year-old’s first performance at the VMAs since 2017.

Lorde is in the running for one award at this year’s ceremony, with Solar Power being nominated in the Best Cinematography category. She previously picked up her only MTV Video Music Award in 2014, taking home the Best Rock Video honors for her single “Royals.”

The 2021 MTV VMAs is scheduled to take place on September 12th at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. Despite Lorde dropping out, the ceremony will still have a strong lineup of performers that includes Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Shawn Mendes, and Lil Nas X, among others.
