Another reboot is coming our way in 2018. This time CBS decided to resurrect their hugely acclaimed sitcom from the ’90s, Murphy Brown, almost 30 years after its original premiere. The sitcom revolves around eponymous investigative journalist and news anchor, played by Candice Bergen, who returns to her job at fictional news magazine FYI after recovering from alcoholism.

The network announced that they have placed a 13-episodes order for 2018-19 TV season. Bergen will return to reprise her role, as well as show’s creator and writer Diane English. It remains unclear whether the rest of the cast including Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto, and Grant Shaud will return.

According to CBS, there will be no shortage of material for the show since Murphy Brown returns into the “world of cable news, social media, fake news, and a very different political and cultural climate.” It will be certainly interesting to see how the sitcom will tackle today’s relevant events since Murphy Brown didn’t hesitate to target real-life politicians during the sitcom’s original run including Dan Quayle, who served as a Vice President of the United States at the time.

Premiering in 1988, the sitcom went to last for 10 seasons and 247 episodes, ending in 1998. During its run, Murphy Brown became a favorite of the industry awards, receiving 62 Emmy Awards nomination and winning 18 of them. Candice Bergen received significant praise for her portrayal of the titular character, receiving five Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe award.
