May December created quite a splash when it premiered in Cannes this spring, and its release date is just around the corner. Academy Award winners Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore star in a new trailer for Todd Haynes’ gripping romance drama ahead of its opening night gala at the New York Film Festival.

According to its official synopsis, May December centers on a married couple with a large age gap buckling under the pressure when a Hollywood actress meets them to do research for a film about their past, twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation.

In addition to Portman and Moore, May December also stars Charles Melton, D.W. Moffett, Piper Curda, Elizabeth Yu, Gabriel Chung, and Cory Michael Smith.

May December had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival back in May, where it was competing for Palme d’Or and was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. It will also serve as the opening film at the New York Film Festival on September 29.

Netflix acquired North American distribution rights for May December in Cannes for $11 million. They’re planning to give this Oscar hopeful a limited theatrical release on November 17 before it becomes available on their streaming service on December 1.
