NBC recently gave an ax to several of their shows, and Young Rock ended up on the chopping block. The comedy series based on the life of wrestling superstar and action hero Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been canceled by the network after three seasons.

Young Rock was set during the early 2030s, and it showed its titular hero reminiscing about different chapters of his life.  Johnson plays his future self in the scenes that eventually lead to flashbacks, taking us to three periods of his life: his upbringing in Hawaii, his high school years in Pennsylvania, and his days playing college football at the University of Miami.

Johnson wasn’t the only one portraying himself in this series—he was joined by Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu. The show’s cast also included Joseph Lee Anderson as his father, Stacey Leilua as his mother, Ana Tuisila as his grandmother, and Matthew Willig as André the Giant, among others.

Young Rock was created by Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang, and it premiered on NBC in 2021. Its cancelation can most likely be credited to the dip in viewership since the linear ratings experienced a double decrease since the show’s first season, which averaged over three million viewers per episode.
