John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale gave us one of the most heartwarming romcoms of the early 2000s with Serendipity, and NBC is currently working on bringing it back in the form of a TV series.
This project is a brainchild of newcomer Jonny Umansky, who wrote the pilot script drawing inspiration from the original 2001 movie about two star-crossed lovers who spent years searching for each other after falling in love one fateful night.
“I’ve been madly in love with this movie for more than half my life. Never has the world needed a show like Serendipity more, and the love stories we have in store are big, bold and filled to the brim with whimsy and wonder,” said Umansky in a statement.
He’ll also be in charge of executive producing this project alongside Miramax CEO Bill Block and SVP Television Caitlin Foito. She praised Umansky for inventing a relentlessly optimistic romantic comedy cinematic universe and said she’s sure this unique project will be a win for everyone involved.
