When you think of Neil Patrick Harris usually what comes to mind are his comedic roles such as Barnie Stinson from How I Met Your Mother and Doctor Horrible (or, if you’re a little bit older, Doogie Howser). But, as he proved in the past, for example with his role as an ex-boyfriend in Gone Girl, Harris can also do action and drama.

Now, it has been announced that Harris will join the cast of the upcoming The Matrix 4. Variety reports that the actor has signed up for a significant role in the film. As the plot is kept secret we still don’t know what part it would be exactly.

The making of the new sequel was confirmed last August. The original’s writer and director Lana Wachowski will be at the helm and Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss will return to their parts of Neo and Trinity.

Deadline reports that Jada Pinkett Smith is also in talks to return to the franchise. She played the part of Niobe in The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolution.
