It’s been a while since we’ve seen Neil Patrick Harris play a major TV role, but he’s finally ready for a comeback. His new Netflix series Uncoupled hails from the masterminds behind SATC and Modern Family, and the first trailer promises a hilarious and bittersweet romcom.

The series focuses on a gay man in his mid-forties trying to navigate the dating scene in New York City after a tough breakup. His seemingly perfect life turns upside down after his partner decides to walk out the door after 17 years together.

Uncoupled was co-created by Darren Star (SATC) and Jeffrey Richman (Modern Family), who described it as their passion project, adding they’re excited to share it with the world.

“While the world is specific, we believe the themes of love, loss, and reinvention will be relatable to everyone. We are especially proud of our fine cast, led by the incomparable Neil Patrick Harris, who gives a performance that is both hilarious and heartbreaking,” said the duo in a statement.

In addition to Harris, Uncoupled also stars Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks, and Marcia Gay Harden. The first season will feature a total of eight episodes and it’s set to premiere on Netflix on July 29.
