Benoit Blanc is returning just in time for Christmas.

Even before Knives Out was released in 2019, writer and director Rian Johnson had envisioned more films starring Daniel Craig as the unconventional detective. In March last year, Netflix acquired the rights to produce two sequels, with the first due out later this year.

The streamer has now confirmed that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will hit screens on December 23.

While the original film took place in a Massachusetts mansion, Glass Onion is set on a private Greek island where someone winds up dead. Johnson is once again directing, while the No Time to Die actor will reprise his role as Blanc.

“I’m always fishing for something fun that Blanc can grab onto as an overwrought metaphor that he can beat to death,” Johnson said. “This is all in plain sight from the very start. So, the idea of glass came to me, something that’s clear. I’ll be very honest. I literally got out my iPhone and searched my music library with the word ‘glass.’ There’s got to be some good glass songs. I was like, ‘Oh, is it a glass fortress? Is it a glass castle? Is it a glass man?’ The first thing that came up, because I’m a huge Beatles fan, is ‘Glass Onion.’”

Craig will be joined by an all-star ensemble cast comprising of Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr, Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, and Kathryn Hahn.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
