Previous attempt to bring Avatar: The Last Airbender to life have failed, but that’s not stopping Netflix from giving it another try. Broadcasting service is working on a live-action show, based on the popular anime series.

The original animated version aired on Nickelodeon in 2005 and stayed there for three seasons. It centered on Aang, a young boy on a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar and bring peace to the world.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was adapted to the big screen in 2010, by M. Night Shyamalan. It received disastrous reviews, but fans are pretty confident that won’t happen this time around. Original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will serve as executive producers and showrunners of the upcoming series, and they’re thrilled to be on board.

“We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building,” said the duo in their joint statement.
