It’s that time of the year when TV shows get canceled and fans get disappointed. If you enjoyed Netflix’s crime drama Seven Seconds, then prepare for bad news. The streaming giant decided to pull the plug on the series two months after the first season premiered.

“We loved working with Veena Sud, Regina King and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds. Together they created a compelling, timely and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come,” said Cindy Holland, VP Original Series at Netflix.

Seven Seconds is based on the Russian film The Major, and tells the story of the death of a young black boy, who got hit by a police car. The series focuses on the boy’s family as they deal with their loss and attempts of the police to cover up the crime. Seven Seconds was created by Veena Sud, who is known for developing crime drama The Killing. The main cast included Clare-Hope Ashitey, Beau Knapp, Michael Mosley, David Lyons, and Regina King.

Seven Seconds’ first season premiered on February 23, 2018, and met with positive reviews by the critics who underlined acting performances as the series’ most convincing part.

After the series premiered in February, there were plans to develop it into an anthology series that would go on for four or five seasons. It would have the same setting in New Jersey with a combination of old characters and new faces.

This was just one of several original series Netflix decided to shut down recently. The streaming service recently canceled comedy Everything Sucks after one season as well, while also giving up on Chuck Lorre’s comedy Disjointed after two seasons.
