Netflix Cancels “Designated Survivor” and “Tuca & Bertie”

Kiefer Sutherland and Kal Penn in "Designated Survivor"

It seems Kiefer Sutherland has run out of luck. After ABC canceled his show Designated Survivor last year after two seasons, Netflix picked it up for another one. Now, after the third season, the shog gets the axe, again.

The network announced that the three seasons of the show will continue to be on the air for years to come. In the announcement, Netflix thanked Sutherland who is both the executive producer and the star of the show for his “passion, dedication, and unforgettable performance as President Kirkman”.

Sutherland portrays Kirkman, a minor cabinet secretary who becomes the presidents of the United States after everyone else in the line of succession gets killed in a terror attack.

We will have to say goodbye to another show, Tuca & Bertie, that lasted only one season. The animated series starred Tiffany Hadish and Ali Wong as two bird-women in their 30s. “We’re grateful to Lisa (Hannawalt), and her fellow executive producers Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, Steven A. Cohen, and EPs/stars Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, along with all of the writers and animators for sharing the funny and dynamic female bird duo of Tuca & Bertie with the world. While Tuca & Bertie won’t have a second season, we’re proud to feature this story on Netflix for years to come”, said Netflix.
