Netflix Cancels “One Day at a Time” After 3 Seasons

Rita Moreno, Justina Machado, and Marcel Ruiz in "One Day at a Time"

One Day at a Time is one of Netflix’s sitcoms with the most devoted fan base, but that didn’t stop it from being canceled after only three seasons. The streaming giant recently announced they won’t be renewing this beloved show, because the viewership just wasn’t high enough.

Netflix bosses thanked the fans for their outpouring of love for
One Day at a Time, and saluted the great cast for filling this show with so much heart and warmth and love, that it truly felt like home. They made it clear it wasn’t easy to cancel this critically acclaimed sitcom, but the numbers just weren’t there.

“We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day at a Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” read statement released by Netflix.

One Day at a Time followed everyday-lives of a Cuban family living in the US and addressed many pressing issues over its three-season run – including racism, immigration, coming out, PTSD and depression.
