Another Netflix series comes to an early end.

The network has announced that the sci-fi series The OA is canceled after two seasons. This sudden end of the series will leave the fans with a cliffhanger.

The OA revolved around Prairie Johnson, a blind woman who mysteriously gets her sight back and trains a team of teenagers to open portals to parallel universes and help her friends. The woman, played by co-creator Brit Marling, calls herself the Original Angel. The end of the last season saw the lead character severely injured while traveling to a parallel universe and her future is unclear.

Marling has posted a letter to the show’s fans on her Instagram account, saying, “Zal and I are deeply sad not to finish this story. The first time I head the news I had a good cry. so did one of our executives at Netflix.”

Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president of original content, thanked Marling and her co-creator Zal Batmanglij for the 16 episodes that aired with what she has defined incredible artistry. “We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”
