Netflix Drops Empowering New Trailer for “Dumplin'”

Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald in "Dumplin'"

Netflix has released the trailer for their upcoming comedy-drama Dumplin’.

Dumplin’ stars Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean (Dumplin’) alongside her former pageant star mother, played by Jennifer Aniston.

The official synopsis reads: “Willowdean (‘Dumplin’), the plus-size teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, signs up for her mom’s Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.”

You can watch the official trailer here:

The trailer seems to point towards the clear conclusion that Dumplin’ will get everything right that their recent show Insatiable got wrong. Insatiable also featured a plus-size teenage girl who decided to enter beauty pageants and had a rocky relationship with her mother. The difference is that Patty (Insatiable) was taught that “skinny is magic” and lost all the weight before she dared enter pageants. Willowdean, on the other hand, doesn’t dare to change a thing about herself before entering. A wise drag queen teaches her to “find out who you are and then do it on purpose.”

Dumplin’ consequently seems to send the message of self-love and body positivity. The array of characters seem interesting and far more well rounded than any of the characters in Insatiable. On top of that, Jenifer Aniston is in it, so we’re definitely sold.

Dumplin’ will be released December 7 this year.
