It’s been a while since we’ve gotten an epic ensemble heist comedy, but it seems this genre is finally returning in style! Netflix just dropped the first trailer for the star-studded heist movie Lift, led by Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Lift follows an international heist crew, racing against time to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet. Netflix’s official synopsis described Hart’s character Cyrus as “the mastermind of the Lift team, a seasoned thief who finds himself cajoled into working with the government for one last heist.”

They also mention that his role in this film gravitates towards the more action-oriented persona he’s tested out in films like Central Intelligence. He’s also producing Lift through his studio, HartBeat Productions, after collaborating with Netflix on recent comedies Fatherhood and Me Time.

In addition to Hart, the star-studded cast of this heist comedy also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Kim Yoon-ji, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, Sam Worthington, Burn Gorman, and Viveik Kalra.

Lift was written for Netflix by Daniel Kunka and directed by F. Gary Gray, whose recent filmography includes The Fate and the FuriousStraight Outta Compton, and Men in Black: International. It will arrive on Netflix on January 12, 2024.
