Leave the World Behind is one of the most exciting new movies coming to Netflix this fall, and the streamer finally shared the first trailer with the world. This psychological thriller is as tense as it gets, and its cast includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke.
According to Netflix’s official logline, this film centers on a couple (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke), whose “vacation is upended when two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world.”
Leave the World Behind is based on Rumaan Alam’s book of the same name, and it was adapted for the big screen by Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail. He previously collaborated with Roberts on Homecoming, and they’re both serving as the film’s producers. Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans, and Kevin Bacon also star.
Leave the World Behind will serve as the opening film of the upcoming AFI Fest, and it will have its world premiere at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on October 25. The film will then be released in selected theatres on November 22, before heading to Netflix on December 8.
