Netflix gave us one of its biggest hits with The Witcher and its prequel series was a long time coming. The streamer just dropped the first trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin, along with some other key details about the highly anticipated prequel.

This prequel takes us to the elven Golden Era, 1200 years before the original series, and here’s what the official logline has to say about it:

The Witcher: Blood Origin tells the story of seven strangers who join together to fight an unstoppable empire… When gateways to other worlds are opened and a power-hungry sage unleashes a new weapon, the Seven realize they must create a monster in order to defeat one.”

Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain will play Éile and Fjall, two warriors from the opposing clans, who must learn to trust each other to survive. The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as the sword master Scian, Mirren Mack as Princess Merwyn, Lenny Henry as Chief Sage Balor, and Minnie Driver as Seanchaí.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will premiere on Netflix this Christmas, and it will feature a total of four episodes. The original series is set to come back for its third season with Henry Cavill in the lead role, with Liam Hemsworth set to replace him in Season 4.
