20 years after singer Jennifer Lopez played Tejano legend Selena Quintanilla in a movie, Netflix plans to introduce a new series that built on the late singer’s personal life.

Netflix plans to work with Selena’s family for the film’s production. Dubbed Selena: The Series, it will revolve around the singer’s personal life. According to Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla, the show will be “Selena’s Coming of age” and will be released at a later date.

“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel a great responsibility to do justice to her memory,” Suzette said. “With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives.

Moises Zamora, the creator of Star, American Crime will write the show’s script and act as the executive producer alongside several members of the Quintanilla family. The show’s trailer was released on Monday and announced by Jaime Davila, an executive producer and one of the owners of Campanario Entertainment.

“Selena and the entire Quintanilla family are an inspiration to many and especially to me, a millennial of the same heritage,” Davila said. “Selena’s career achievements are legendary, but our scripted series will focus on the incredible story of a Mexican-American family and how an extraordinary young woman transcended categories and borders to become a global star.”

Selena was a Grammy-winning Tejano singer, and one of the best-selling Latin music artists in her generation and of all time. She was killed in 1995 by a gunshot wound.
