Max canceled Warrior after three seasons, but this series will now continue its life on a completely different streaming platform. Netflix picked up Jonathan Tropper’s martial arts drama following the recent Max cancelation.

Based on an original concept developed by Bruce Lee, this series was set during the Tong Wars in the late 1870s. It centered on Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who emigrated from China to San Francisco in search of his sister, only to become a hatchet man for the most powerful tong in Chinatown.

Andrew Koji played the lead role, while the supporting cast included Olivia Cheng, Dianne Doan, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, and Chen Tang. Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee came on board as one of the executive producers.

Creator Jonathan Tropper said this series continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique throughout many platform and regime changes, and thanked Netflix for picking it up.

“Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die… Now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it,” said Tropper in a statement to Deadline.
