The final season of the coming-of-age series On My Block is coming to Netflix this October, but its story is far from being over. Its universe will be expanding with the new spin-off series Freeridge, but how is this show connected to the original?

Two of On My Block creators, Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, will return as showrunners for Freeridge, and they’re set to join forces with Jamie Uyeshiro, who wrote several episodes of the original show and served as its executive story editor.

“Some of the greatest comments we’ve heard about On My Block were from fans telling us that they felt seen and represented. As we embark on Freeridge, a more female-driven show, we will continue to invest in authentic characters that represent our passionate audience,” said the trio in an official statement.

Freeridge will be set in the same fictional LA neighborhood as On My Block, but the original cast is not expected to make a comeback because the series will focus on a new crew of friends. On My Block will soon enter its fourth and final season, set to premiere on Netflix on October 4th.
