Robert Rodriguez is getting ready to bring Spy Kids back, and he’s working with a brand-new cast to make it happen. Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi are set to lead Netflix’s upcoming reboot of the beloved family adventure franchise.

In addition to Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Levi (Shazam!), the cast of the new Spy Kids will also include child actors Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson. The new film will shift focus on a different family, and here’s what the official logline has to say about it:

“When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.”

Robert Rodriguez is coming on board as the film’s writer, director, and producer, and this isn’t his first family-friendly Netflix movie. His film We Can Be Hero was a huge hit on this streaming platform in 2020, and its sequel is on the way, but he won’t return as a director.

The first Spy Kids film was released in 2002, and its principal cast included Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara. It was followed by three more movies, concluding with Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 2011.
