The Night Agent is one of the biggest hits to premiere on Netflix this year, and they’re betting big on it. Less than a week since this action thriller series premiered, the streaming giant renewed it for its second season.
The Night Agent was created for Netflix by Shawn Ryan, and it centers on a low-level FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who’s thrown into a vast conspiracy that leads all the way to the Oval Office. Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, Phoenix Raei, Enrique Murciano, and D. B. Woodside also star.
The show’s renewal doesn’t come as a shocker given its viewership numbers. Netflix bosses didn’t even wait to see its 28-day performance and gave it a Season 2 renewal after it raked in 168.71 million hours of worldwide views over its first four days.
This marks the third-best premiere for a debuting series, and Netflix’s VP of drama series Jinny Howe said they’re proud of its breakout performance.
“Shawn Ryan has created a spy thriller sensation that viewers cannot get enough of, with a stellar cast featuring Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, and Hong Chau, and we’re here to bring them more of the action and suspense they love,” said Howe in a statement.
