Sweet Magnolias is one of the most popular comfort shows that Netflix has in store, and they’re betting big on its future. Its third season ended its run this summer, and the streaming giant just announced they’re bringing this drama back for another chapter.
Sweet Magnolias draws inspiration from Sherryl Woods’ popular book series of the same name, and it centers on lifelong best friends Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) as they juggle relationships, family, and careers in the small town of Serenity, South Carolina, where things aren’t exactly serene.
Sheryl J. Anderson, who developed this series for Netflix, will return as its showrunner and executive producer for another season. Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Justin Bruening, Chris Klein, Jamie Lynn Spears, Dion Johnstone, Brandon Quinn, and Chris Medlin will most likely reprise their supporting roles from the previous seasons.
Netflix is betting big on its lighter comfort dramas, and they’ve renewed several shows that fall under this category long before Sweet Magnolias. Firefly Lane is the only one to end its run, but they’re bringing back Virgin River (renewed for Season 6), The Lincoln Lawyer (renewed for Season 3), and Ginny & Georgia (renewed for Seasons 3 and 4).
