The first three seasons of Virgin River found huge success on Netflix, and the streaming giant won’t be saying goodbye to this show anytime soon. Netflix finally revealed the fate of this beloved series and announced it’s coming back for its fourth and fifth season.

Virgin River draws inspiration from Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, and it became a huge hit with Netflix users since its premiere in 2019. It centers on a nurse practitioner Mel Monroe, who moves to the remote California town of Virgin River in an attempt to start anew, only to find out that small-town life isn’t as simple as she expected.

Alexandra Breckenridge plays the lead role while the rest of the cast includes Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Lauren Hammersley, and Annette O’Toole.

While discussing the show’s renewal with USA Today, Netflix’s VP of original series Jinny Howe said that the success of Virgin River confirmed that the comfort genre is a vital area of programming, and they’re heavily relying on it because people crave the feeling of hope and community during difficult times. Other shows in this niche, such as Firefly Lane, Ginny & Georgia, and Sweet Magnolias, have all previously been renewed for additional seasons.
