Bridgerton proved to be such a huge hit for Netflix that the streamer couldn’t resist developing a spin-off about one of its most intriguing characters. The first look at Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is here and it offers a glimpse at the younger version of the fierce royal.

Queen Charlotte was played by Golda Rosheuvel in the original series, but she won’t be the only one portraying the royal in the prequel. India Amarteifio will headline the series as the young Queen Charlotte, and the first look photo sees her take over from Rosheuvel.

When Netflix announced this series back in May last year, they promised it will explore “the origins of Queen Charlotte”, one of the characters who sparked a lot of curiosity with the viewers.

According to the official synopsis, the new series chronicles Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, and how her marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.

In addition to Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) are also set to reprise their roles from the original series. They’ll be joined by several newcomers to the Bridgerton world, including Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Corey Mylchreest as Young King George, and Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley.
