Fans lost it when Netflix announced they’re plotting a new live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender and this project looks quite promising. Expectations are running high after the streaming shared the first look at Aang, Katara, and Sokka in the new remake.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is based on the Nickelodeon anime series of the same name, set in a world where everyone’s divided into four nations, who are at war with each other. The Avatar is the master of all four elements, capable of restoring the peace of the nations – and it’s up to the twelve-year-old Aang to take this responsibility and try to fulfill his destiny.
Gordon Cormier will lead the series as Aang, alongside Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh. The supporting cast will include Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Leung, Maria Zhang, Elizabeth Yu, and Lim Kay Siu, among others.
Netflix’s series marks the second attempt at a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, following M. Night Shyamalan’s critical bomb The Last Airbender in 2010. It will premiere on Netflix in 2024, and the first-look poster was unveiled ahead of the release of the first teaser trailer for this highly-anticipated eight-episode series.
