Netflix’s “Bright 2” Production Delayed Due to Will Smith’s Schedule

Will Smith’s very full schedule is delaying the production of Bright 2, the sequel to Bright, Netflix’s fantasy-crime movie. ComicBook reports that it is not certain when production will begin, if ever.

Lucy fry, who starred in the first film, said that “We were going to do it this year, and then it didn’t happen because of Will’s schedule.” She continued, “I really hope they do another one because I had so much fun making that movie. So, I just hope we get to do it again.”

The first film saw Will Smith as a bigoted cop in a modern-day world that is inhabited with fantasy creatures such as orcs, dwarves and elves living alongside humans. He is being partnered with the first-ever orc cop.

It was the most expensive original Netflix movie as the streaming service spent 90 million dollars on it. Netflix was apparently sure of its success as it ordered a sequel even before its release. However, the movie got a lukewarm welcome by the critics who did not like the world’s building and its failure to deal properly with the social implications of mixing races.

The audience gave it a more positive welcome – with 11 million views in the first weekend it became one of the most viewed films on the service.
