Netflix’s “Lupin” to Reach 70 Million Households in First 28 Days

Since its premiere earlier this month, Lupin became the first French series to debut on Netflix’s U.S. top 10 list, and it seems that the best is yet to come. The streaming giant projects that this crime drama will reach 70 million households in the first 28 days, becoming one of its biggest hits to date.

If Netflix’s predictions are correct, Lupin will surpass the projected household reach set by the most popular series on this platform. Most recently, Netflix projected that 63 million households tuned in to watch the Regency-era period drama Bridgerton in the first 28 days, while the limited series The Queen’s Gambit pulled in 62 million households in that same period.

What makes Lupin’s success so impressive is that it’s a true rarity for foreign-language shows to find such success on the international stage. Its main star Omar Sy celebrated its success by tweeting “so proud that Lupin is the first French Netflix Original series to be so successful internationally” and thanked the fans of the show for their support.

Lupin draws inspiration from Maurice Leblanc’s legendary novels about the gentleman thief and detective Arsène Lupin, often described as a French counterpart to Sherlock Holmes. It follows professional thief Assane Diop on his quest to avenge an injustice done to his father.
