Horror fans are disappointed to learn that the Netflix show Marianne will not be returning for a second season.

The news of the show’s cancelation was announced by the show’s creator Samuel Boden. Boden shared a still shot from the show on Instagram and wrote: “There won’t be a second season for MARIANNE. We are very sorry and sad about that. But we will see you in other stories…”.

Marianne is a French art-horror series about a girl who must tell the stories of Marianne, the malevolent witch, in order to protect the people around her. The show is currently rated 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and has received high praise from critics and fans alike.

Iconic horror writer Stephen King is among the list of people who have declared themselves fans of the show. Last year, he wrote on Twitter: “If you’re one of those sickos–like me–who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe.”

Although we will be saying goodbye to the show, there is a glimmer of hope in Boden’s promise of “other stories”. Perhaps something even creepier is on the way…
