What would Scream be without Sidney Prescott?

That’s the question which fans will find the answer to when the franchise returns for a terrifying sixth installment next year.

When the horror series kicked off in 1996, it became the highest-grossing slasher film in the world until Halloween premiered in 2018. The movies have drawn an all-star cast, with many famous names, like Drew Barrymore, Patrick Dempsey, Adam Brody, Emma Roberts, and Jada Pinkett Smith, making cameos.

The first four movies in the franchise all focus on Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, who tries to avoid being killed by a series of murderers posing as “Ghostface”. Although Jenny Ortega stars as the main character in Scream 5, Campbell still reprises her role.

Unfortunately, that won’t be true for the upcoming film.

The Lincoln Lawyer actress announced that she would not be be returning to the beloved role due to a wage dispute.

“Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film,” her statement read. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Scream 6 will premiere without its signature scream queen in 2023.
