The NBC hospital drama has received a second season order.

The news that New Amsterdam, still in its rookie season, has been renewed for another seasons was announced by the network Monday.

The series stars Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin, who is given the challenge of running one of the oldest public hospitals in New York. Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine star alongside Eggold.

“We’ve been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make New Amsterdam such an incredibly compelling medical series,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents, scripted programming at NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. “Congratulations to David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter the series, which airs Tuesday following the network’s hit drama This Is Us, is averaging 11.9 million viewers including delayed viewing.

New Amsterdam is NBC’s first freshman show to secure a spot on the 2019-20 schedule.
