Reese Witherspoon is producing a new comedy about an undocumented Iranian family.

Americanized, based on Saedi’s memoir of the same name, tells the story of a loving and off-beat Iranian family, with a very big secret: they’re undocumented immigrants. According to Variety, the half-hour comedy will serve as a window into the life of a Middle-Eastern household while exploring the universal truths that bond every type of “American” family.

Witherspoon will executive produce the single-camera series for ABC. Saedi will pen the script and exec produce the comedy for ABC Studios alongside Witherspoon and Lauren Levy Neustadter for Hello Sunshine.

Witherspoons’ Hello Sunshine has three straight-to-series projects in the works at Apple, Little Fires Everywhere for Hulu and Big Little Lies for HBO.
