After the third season aired in April 2017, it was announced that FX’ critically acclaimed TV series Fargo is going on an extended hiatus. The lack of creative idea as well as creator Noah Hawley’s other project were cited as some of the reasons. This immediately made the fans believe the show is being silently canceled.

Well, we have some good news. FX CEO John Landgraf confirmed on Friday that there will definitely be another season for the series and we should expect it in 2019.

“Fargo is not gone,” said Landgraf. “Noah Hawley has an idea which excites me enormously for a fourth cycle. The plan is to have that ready for 2019. I’m focused on what will come in 2018, but our anticipation is that there’s another cycle in 2019.”

Previously Hawley said that Fargo definitely didn’t end but couldn’t pinpoint an actual date in which the fourth season would begin with production. Hawley is currently occupied with another FX show, Legion, whose season two release date is scheduled for April 2018. There is also a Doctor Doom movie which Hawley is set to write and direct.

Fargo premiered in 2014 and was inspired by 1996’s eponymous film which was directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. Each season of the TV series is set in a different era, follows a different story and features a new cast, although there are occasional overlaps. During its run, Fargo won numerous awards including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries in 2014. The last season aired from April to June 2017 on FX and featured Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as lead members of the cast.
