Wait, didn’t Gorillaz release an album in April? Well, it looks like Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have much more music to share with us. During his interview with TASCHEN, Hewlett revealed that the band intends to release another album in 2018.

“We’re working on another Gorillaz album which we’re going to be releasing next year,” he said. “We’re going straight into the album with no break. Usually, we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided, you know what? Let’s keep going. Because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. That will be all of next year and probably the year beyond that.”

You can check out the entire interview below. He speaks about Gorillaz from the 10:20 mark.

Previously, the band’s frontman Damon Albarn also discussed possibility of releasing a new album while speaking to Q Magazine in September.

“If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now.” said Albarn

Releasing four studio albums from 2001 to 2010, Gorillaz made a long break, with Albarn focusing on the reunion of his original band, brit-pop legends Blur. Gorillaz eventually announced their new album in 2015 with Humanz being released on 28 April 2017. Humanz features collaborations with various artists including Grace Jones, Vince Staples, Popcaan, Anthony Hamilton, and De La Soul among others. The album received generally positive reviews upon release, being described as band’s “most youthful album yet”, “vibrant record” and “strangely uplifting”.

Super Deluxe edition of the album was released on 3 November 2017, featuring 14 additional songs which were not included in the original release. Prior to that, Gorillaz also released a stand-alone single titled “Sleeping Powder“.
