Despite the franchise’s significant popularity and interest from the fans, we haven’t seen a new Police Academy movie since 1994’s Mission to Moscow. This might change soon.

Steve Guttenberg, who plays the character of Carey Mahoney in this comedy-film series, revealed on his Twitter that there is a new Police Academy movie in the works!

The 60-year-old actor posted a photo in London, which prompted a Twitter user named Adam to express hopes that Guttenberg is shooting the next installment in the British capital. The response Adam received was just what we all wanted to hear.

“Adam, the next Police Academy is coming, no details yet, but it is in a gift bag being readied!” – responded Guttenberg.

First Police Academy movie was released in 1984, with six sequels finding their way to theaters in the following 10 years. Although the films were not received warmly by the critics, they managed to become fan favorites due to their simple humor.

The plans to make the eighth installment in the Police Academy series were announced in 2003 when creator Paul Maslansky said that there is an intention to release a new movie in 2007. Since then, the filming has been delayed several times while the idea to do a complete reboot of the franchise started being considered. In 2012, there were news that Scott Zabielski (Tosh.0) should direct while Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up) was hired to do rewrites on the script. While we lost all hope after this, things might just turn out the way we hope after all.
