Renfield, a film about Dracula’s notorious unhinged henchman, has found its lead in Nicholas Hoult.

Directed and produced by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The Lego Batman Movie) from an original script by Robert Kirkman and a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty), the film is an origin story of Dracula’s henchman.

In Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel Dracula, Renfield was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was believed to be suffering from delusions that caused him to eat live creatures in the hopes of being immortal until it was revealed he was under the influence of Count Dracula.

Although plot details for the film have been kept under wraps, the vampire tale is going to take place in the present day.

In past adaptations of Dracula, Renfield was played by Dwight Frye in the 1931 film, Tom Waits in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 version, and Roland Topor in Werner Herzog’s 1979 movie Nosferatu the Vampyre.

Hoult is known for his roles in Those Who Wish Me Dead, Dark Phoenix, and The Great.
