We can count on Nicki Minaj to grab people’s attention with each new song she shares with the world, and she did it again with her latest single. “Red Ruby da Sleeze” is Nicki Minaj’s first single of 2023, and her first solo song since the chart-topping hit “Super Freaky Girl”.
Minaj has been teasing this single for quite some time on her social media channels, by sharing photos from behind the scenes of what seems to be a music video shoot in Trinidad. She can be seen posing inside an Asian restaurant in a Jean Paul Gaultier “pon mi dress”.
“Red Ruby Da Sleeze” samples Lumidee’s “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)” and it references Minaj’s own song “Chun Li”. Red Ruby from the song’s title seems to be the rapper’s new alter ego, and the lyrics repeatedly address her domination over the modern rap scene and her confidence that no one compares to her.
“Red Ruby da Sleeze” is Minaj’s first single of 2023 and her first solo song since the release of “Super Freaky Girl” in August last year. This song debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third No. 1 single in the US and her first song as a solo artist to reach the top of the chart.
