Nicki Minaj’s collaborations with emerging young artists are a gift that keeps on giving, and Kim Petras is the next one in line. The duo’s long-awaited collaboration “Alone” is here, and it’s a dream come true for Petras who wanted to collaborate with Minaj for years.

“Alone” samples “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay, and it opens with Minaj rapping, “It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras.” The song then cuts to Petras’s angelic voice and we don’t get to hear from Minaj until the second verse, which puts an edgy twist on this disco-inspired bop.

“Alone” generated a lot of buzz online ever since Petras started teasing it back in March, and she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that working with Minaj still doesn’t feel real.

“Her singing ‘it’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras,’ I cried, I was on the floor… She just changed my life in so many ways with that verse and that verse rips, I love her and I’m so inspired by her always, it’s crazy to me. I don’t know how she does it, but she’s just the greatest ever,” said Petras.

“Alone” will be featured on Petras’ first major label album, which is due to come out sometime this year.
