Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan and It’s a Sin’s Lydia West are no strangers to starring in successful TV shows, and they’re getting ready to do it by each other’s side. They’ve been cast in a Channel 4 comedy Big Mood about the complexities of female friendship.

Big Mood has been described as “a vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness”. Coughlan and West will play BFFs Maggie and Eddie, who spent their twenties living in each other’s pockets.

This series has been developed under the working title Super Close by Camilla Whitehill (Porters), who serves as its writer and creator. The first season will feature a total of six episodes, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine director Rebecca Asher is coming on board to helm them.

The show was born out of Nicola Coughlan’s longstanding friendship with Camilla Whitehill. They attended a drama school in Oxford together, and went through many ups and downs over years, with Coughlan’s describing their 20s as “the struggle bus” while discussing the project with Variety.

West met Coughlan briefly at last year’s TV BAFTA Awards, and she wanted to star in this project as soon as she read the script. She was impressed by the writing because it sounded relatable and reminded her of the conversations she had with her friends.
