Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels are finally coming to the big screen, courtesy of Amazon Studios and Blumhouse! The streaming giant is developing a blockbuster series inspired by Cornwell’s books, with Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles.

Kay Scarpetta is the protagonist in 26 books written by Cornwell, which sold over 100 million copies over the years, starting with Postmortem in 1990. Scarpetta is a medical examiner, who often relies on forensic science in her investigations.

The Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman will portray the titular character, while Curtis will play the protagonist’s sister Dorothy. Her involvement doesn’t come as a surprise after Curtis’ Comet Pictures and Blumhouse Television secured the right for this book series in 2021.

“Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting,” said Curtis in a statement.

Liz Sarnoff, best known for her work on Barry, will write the series and serve as its showrunner. According to Deadline, Kay Scarpetta is nearing a two-season straight-to-series order at Prime Video, with eight episodes per season, but Amazon is yet to make things official.
