Nicole Kidman’s transition to television has been a joy to watch, and she has another promising series on the way. The Emmy-winning actress stars in the first trailer for Lulu Wang’s new series Expats, which sees her trying to live her best life in Hong Kong.

According to Amazon Prime Video’s official synopsis, this series is set against the complex tapestry of Hong Kong residents and “depicts a multifaceted group of women after a single encounter sets off a chain of life-altering events that leaves everyone navigating the intricate balance between blame and accountability.”

Kidman plays Margaret, one of three American women brought together by a family tragedy, whose story is the focal point of Expats, alongside Sarayu Blue as Hilary and Ji-young Yoo as Mercy. The show’s supporting cast includes Jack Huston, Brian Tee, and Flora Chan.

Expats is based on Janice Y. K. Lee’s novel The Expatriates, and it hails from The Farewell director Lulu Wang. She’s also one of the show’s executive producers, alongside Kidman, Per Saari, Theresa Park, Alice Bell, and Melanie Marnich.

Expats will feature a total of six episodes, airing weekly on Amazon Prime Video following its two-episode premiere on January 26, 2024.
