Nicole Kidman in "The Others"

The 2001 haunted house film The Others starring Nicole Kidman and directed by Alejandro Amenabar is getting a remake.

Universal Pictures and Sentient Entertainment will partner on the remake.

The original is set in 1945 in a remote country house on the British island of Jersey and centers around Grace Stewart (Kidman) discovering unknown “others” in her house. One of the children has seen a group of people in her home many times who claim “the house is theirs.”

The film was a huge success at the box offices, grossing more than $200 million with only a $17 million budget. It went on to win seven of Spain’s Goya Awards, including best film and best director.

It’s yet to be known how much the film will stick to the original storyline and insiders say that execs are meeting with writers to adapt the script.
