The British Academy is the latest organization to unveil its list of nominations for the annual film awards. The BAFTA nominations are finally in, and Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and Sarah Gavron’s Rocks are leading the way with seven nominations each.
Nomadland will be competing for the most prestigious award of the night—best film—alongside The Father, The Mauritanian, Promising Young Woman, and The Trial of the Chicago 7. It’s also in the running for best direction (Chloé Zhao) and best leading actress (Frances McDormand).
Rocks owes many of its nominations to the special categories that recognize British talent. It’s in the running for outstanding British film and outstanding debut by a British writer, director, or producer, but it scored a couple of general nominations, such as best director and original screenplay.
The list of major contenders at this year’s ceremony also includes The Father, Mank, Minari, and Promising Young Woman, with six nominations each. The Dig and The Mauritanian also managed to win over BAFTA voters and ended up scoring five nominations.
The 74th British Academy Film Awards will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 11th.
