Multiple outlets reports that Olivia Spencer has joined the cast of Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches.

Zemeckis’ adaption will be the second of Roald Dahl’s 1973 novel of the same name. It was first adapted to the big screen in 1990. Only loosely rooted in the original source material, the author disavowed the version, namely because the version changed the book’s ending.

The story follows Bruno, a 7-year-old boy who encounters real-life witches.

Spencer will star opposite the previously announced Anne Hathaway as Bruno’s grandmother. Jahzir Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick are also negotiations to join the cast

Zemekis will co-write the script with Kenya Barris (Black-ish). He will also produce with via their banner ImageMovers. Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro also serve as exec producers. The duo originally developed the project, and Tel Toro even wrote a first draft of the screenplay.

Spencer’s most recent project was Green Book, where she served as executive producer. The feature scored five Oscar nominations.
