Olivia Coleman’s Oscar Acceptance Speech Was Adorable

Olivia Coleman became the first British actress to win an Oscar in the best actress category since Kate Winslet in 2009. She also wins the Everyday Koala nod of approval for her endearing acceptance speech.

“It’s genuinely quite stressful,” Coleman quipped when she got up on stage, tears already streaming down her face. “This is hilarious. I got an Oscar!”

“I have to thank lots of people,” she said, totally overwhelmed by her win. “If, by the way, I forget anybody, I’m going to give you all a massive snog and I’m really sorry if I might forget now.”

She goes onto thank The Favourite team, giving special thanks to her co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz whom she describes as “the loveliest women in the world.” She then thanks her agent, Lindy King, who took her on over 20 years ago. She may have started out as a side character on Peep Show but now she is a fully acclaimed Oscar nominee and winner.

She then thanks her mom, dad, her kids at home watching and added: “Any little girl who’s practising their speech on the telly, you never know. I used to work as a cleaner and I loved that job but I did spent quite a lot of time imagining.”

When given the signal to wrap things up, she charmingly blew a raspberry and continued to thank her husband, the cast, crew and gave a shout out to Lady Gaga. It was a babbling ramble but it was easily the most charming speech of the night.
